Judge Timothy P. Cannon
Judge Timothy P. Cannon was appointed to the Eleventh District Court of Appeals in 2007 and was subsequently elected to his first full term in 2008. He has served as the Eleventh District’s Presiding and Administrative Judge since January 2011.
Judge Cannon received his B.A. from John Carroll University in 1977 and his J.D. in 1980 from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Upon admission to the Ohio Bar in 1980 (and the Florida Bar in 1982), he became a partner at Cannon, Stern & Aveni Co., L.P.A., a position he retained until his appointment to the Eleventh District.
Judge Cannon has been very active in his hometown of Painesville, Ohio, which is located in Lake County. He was a board member on Lake County’s Board of Education and Joint Vocational School District from 1980-1993, a member of Painesville Township’s Board of Zoning Appeals from 1980-1985, and a member of the township’s Zoning Commission from 1985-1990. He was also the Painesville City Assistant Law Director/Prosecutor from 1989-1992 and a Painesville Township Trustee from 1995-1997.
During his 27 years practicing law, Judge Cannon was Legal Advisor to the Painesville Township Trustees and the Laketran Regional Transit Authority. He is a member of the Lake County Bar Association, of which he was a trustee from 2000-2003 and Chairman of the Litigation Committee from 2005-2007, and is a member of the Bar Associations in Ashtabula, Geauga, Portage, and Trumbull Counties. He has been a member of the Ohio State Bar Association since 1980.
Prior to his appointment at the Eleventh District, Judge Cannon was admitted to practice in the United States District Court Northern District of Ohio in 1982 and the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1998. Judge Cannon was appointed by the late Chief Justice Moyer to the Commission on Certification of Attorneys as Specialists. He was also designated by Chief Justice Moyer and Chief Justice Brown to sit by assignment on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Judge Cannon is a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference, serving on the Public Confidence and Community Outreach Committee and the Court Technology Committee. He was appointed in March 2011, by Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor, to chair the Advisory Committee on Case Management. He was requested to chair this committee again for 2012 and 2013.
Judge Cannon resides in Painesville, Ohio with his wife, Lisa Lombardy Cannon, and has two children.
