Judge Matt Lynch......

My family has had a tradition of public service for three generations. My Grandfather graduated from West Point and after military service went to work in Washington DC for the US Patent Office. My parents married in Washington DC and my Dad, John Kennedy Lynch, (in the portrait behind me) worked as an attorney for “The War Department” during World War II. After the war my parents moved to the Cleveland area when I was 3 years old. My Dad then opened a small law office in Downtown Cleveland and went on to have 9 children! Growing up Dad often told us that his job as a lawyer was simply to help people with their problems just like a plumber or carpenter. He offered legal help to families at a fair price which allowed him to support his growing family.  Eventually six of the nine Lynch children followed his example and became lawyers!

In 1969 I graduated from Cathedral Latin High School and then went on to John Carrol University. In 1973 I graduated from JCU and married the same year and then went to law school at night while working in a downtown Cleveland bank during the day. In 1980 I joined my dad and brother in establishing “Lynch & Lynch” with an office on Public Square in Cleveland. It was a lifelong family dream that had come true!

I lost my wife Janie to Leukemia in 1993 and closed my office in downtown Cleveland. I moved my law practice near my home in Bainbridge Township to be closer to my three teenage daughters. These were difficult years but God’s grace sustained our family! My Dad, brother and sister joined me in Geauga County to re-establish Lynch & Lynch in the Chagrin Valley. I was privileged to practice law with my Dad until he was 94 years old!

I was blessed to meet and marry my wife Laura in 1996. Between us we have five daughters all of whom have now raised families of their own and blessed us with 12 grandchildren!

In 2007 I got involved in local politics and ran for Bainbridge Township Trustee and was elected to be Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In 2011 I was asked to run for the State Legislature and was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives where I served until 2014. While in the Legislature I served on the Judiciary Committee, helping to write the laws for the State of Ohio. In 2013 I was named by the Columbus Dispatch as one of the “Top Ten Conservatives” in the Ohio House of Representatives.

In November of 2018 I was elected to the Court of Appeals serving the five Counties of northeast Ohio, i.e., Geauga, Lake, Ashtabula, Portage and Trumbull. In addition to my experience as an attorney and legislator I have also taught thousands of citizens at free educational seminars across Northeast Ohio. I even hosted my own radio show called “How I See It!” on WHK 1420 radio. As  Judge I now draw upon my 30 years of legal experience and the unique experience of serving in the State Legislature to serve the cause of justice.  With God's grace, I hope to serve our community as Judge with dignity and dedication.
